Negotiating peace in Yemen

2008 July 29

TIME’s Carla Power follows Sheik Abdul-Raman Al-Marwani, founder and chair of a Yemeni non-profit organization dedicated to ending gun violence and revenge killing, as he tries to convince extremist Muslim scholars to preach peace. As dedicated to ending the tribal war over the Marai Mountain as he is to bridging the divides between Christians and Muslims everywhere, Marwani seeks to end the violence that is a perpetual obstacle “for investment, for development and for democracy.”
